“The monitoring tool can do more than one person. There was a plan to recruit staffs, but it was not easy to find eligible people. Later, I thought that the monitoring tool can do more than one person's job. I have a colleague who can do good job, and I don’t think the monitoring cost is excessive compared to the labor cost.”
- Dae-hong Kim, senior manager of i-Scream Edu -
Probably you all have the experience of learning with daily study papers in school days. Those study papers are now changed to the study programs that are using smart devices. Even though they have formats different from old materials, many elementary, middle, and high school students are still using the learning materials. Today, I met with Dae-hong Kim, a senior manager of i-Scream Edu that is ranked first in the smart self-directed learning market for elementary school students. i-Scream Edu provides services such as “I-Scream AI Home Run” and “i-Scream AI Home Run for middle school students.” We heard about how EduTech companies are using the monitoring service.
Would you please introduce the company, “i-Scream Edu” and your current role?
i-Scream Edu is providing to elementary and middle school students, home self-directed learning services, “i-Scream Home Run.” We are providing digital multimedia content through a total of 130 unit devices including WEBs, WASs, and 40 live broadcast devices.
I am in charge of data architecture at i-Scream Edu, and I am doing data modeling and performance tuning.
What made you choose the WhaTap solution?
I am handling the monitoring tool as a main job. The WhaTap service is being used for database monitoring as the main. Its visualized function was the best among monitoring tools that I ever used. Its honeycomb view was the most effective for reporting.
You are using WhaTap Database Monitoring. Would you please introduce the frequently used menus or functions?
I'm using the multi-instance version most frequently. I have three monitors at my desk, and I always run the WhaTab service on a dedicated monitor. I am frequently checking 16 key indicators on the dashboard and often checking their trends of count data.
How did you benefit from using the WhaTap solution?
It's not easy to check the past indicators in the database. Using Database Monitoring, the past indicators can be seen. Accordingly, we can easily find problems and take possible actions to prevent from recurring. As an example, when the performance of database slowed down, I checked the indicators from WhaTap Monitoring and found that the memory usage was high. It was not possible to increase the memory right away. We changed the memory settings logically and confirmed that the memory usage was reduced. We confirmed that it was clearly the memory issue. Later, we expanded memory. Through the indicators, we can find whether there is any lock or not and can adjust the situation.
For those who are thinking about adopting the monitoring service, would you please tell us why they must use WhaTap Monitoring?
The monitoring tool can do more than one person. There was a plan to recruit staffs, but it was not easy to find eligible people. I thought that the monitoring tool can do more than one person's job and the monitoring cost is excessive compared to the labor cost. I thought that I have a colleague who can do good job. WhaTap Monitoring is doing its worth.
Please feel free to share your opinions, questions, and requests if any.
I hope that WhaTap Labs has many successes in the future as a SaaS monitoring service provider. WhaTap’s SaaS-based monitoring is unique in Korea and all others are from global companies. I’ve used many monitoring tools. But I chose WhaTap Monitoring because I was sure that the service would get better definitely after a year or two. Its UIs are nice and neat and the process and willingness for reflecting functions or requests were very impressive. It has improved a lot, and I hope that it continue to advance and be born again as a competitive service compared to global services.
